CAS Dreamweaver Challenge

I borrowed the front panel from a card done by Elaine Benedict, one of the reps for Dreamweaver stencils. I love the Butterfly Stencil (LJ 916 ) that Lynell released right before CHA in the summer. I was having a hard time figuring out how I would use it, until Elaine did this beautiful card with the butterfly as a background for a fall card with Maple leaves. Any way I borrowed the idea of using the butterfly for the background on this card and then used the Maidenhair Fern (LJ 846) for my pasted image. Using a large stencil brush and Bundled Sage ink from Tim Holtz I first started the background by just laying the butterfly on the paper and rouging in the color. I then secured the fern stencil by taping all four sides with removable tape and the pasted the image with Black Matte Paste, removed and cleaned the stencil and waited for the image to dry. When dry I repositioned the stencil, pounced some glue from my Stamp and Stick glue pad on the image and proceeded to paint on the Metallic F/X powders using Glacier, Kiwi and Goldfinch. I say painting because I use a filbert paintbrush to brush the powders onto the image. I then mounted it on a green card stock to make it pop. This is a journal that I will be giving to one of my Rainbow girls this weekend at convention. I love the butterfly as a symbol of new beginnings, and there will be many for this young lady as she graduates from High School and begins her college journey. It has been wonderful to have so many people playing along with our challenge this month and the cards have been spectacular. Dreamweaver Challenge : CAS

This week's card was really fun for me. In october my boss and his wife went to France, he asked me what I wanted from France and I told him a great picture of the Eiffel Tower. Not only is he a great dentist and boss, but a fabulous photographer. He made me sheets of pictures that I could use on cards. So I stared by using the Long Stem Rose stencil (LL 375) I placed it on gray paper, taped it down on all four sides and then I pasted the image with Black Matte Paste (DMBP) removed the stencil cleaned and dried it. When the paste was dry I repositioned the stencil over the image and daubered glue over the image, gently pounce the glue so it won't go under the stencil. I used the Palette Stamp and Stick glue pad for this. Using a filbert paint brush I gently brushed on Metallic F/X Kimono Red for the flower and Kiwi for the leaves. I like using a paint brush because it gives me more control over where the mica powders go and I use the underlying black paste as my shadow.I tore down the edge of my gray card stock and adhered it to a red notecard, on the torn edge I did not use any adhesive so that I could tuck part of the picture underneath. I added a black polka dotted bow and voila a simple and elegant card. Now if I could just take as great a picture of my card as my boss does or better yet maybe I'll start having him take pictures of my cards. CAS Challenge Week 3

This week I needed to make a baby shower card for a friend and I thought what a great way to do the Dreamweaver Challenge - Clean and Simple. I picked my paper which I've had for a while, I knew that with all the nieces and nephews I have someone would be having a baby. The paper is from Cloud 9 and has this nice shade of green so I picked a notecard in that shade of green. I used the Baby rattle stencil (LS 87)

and Regular Embossing Paste. I taped the stencil down on all four sides the used my Paste Spreader to paste the image. I then let the paste dry. When the paste was dry I repositioned the stencil and rouged in two shades of pink pigment ink, I started with the lightest one, then added some of the darker. I punched out the paper with the image with a scolloped oval punch (Marvy Uchida ) and then I used the back side of the print paper to punch out a larger scalloped oval. I added a light pink ribbon around the rattles handle. Pretty simple card. Dream Team CAS Challenge

Welcome back for week 2 of the CAS (clean and simple) challenge. For the challenge this week I used the Hula Girl (LM 273) and the Thank You's stencil (LJ 894) and Matte Black Paste (DMBP). I found this lovely new paper by Graphic 45 (one of my all time favorite paper companies), this one is from the collection Tropical Travelogue and is call Hibiscus Heaven. I even like the back which as tiny peach and ivory bubbles. I found some card stock that complimented the hibiscus paper to make my card. I then used my Hula Girl stencil and after taping the stencil down on all four sides pasted her with the Matte Black Embossing paste using a small piece of the card stock I pasted just the word Mahalo from the Thank you stencil. You can always use bits and pieces from a stencil by just taping out what you don't want. Now it's your turn to play, and while your at it send an e-mail with a picture to Lynell or link your creation to Mr. Linky on the Dream It Up blog. Dreamweaver Challenge : CAS

After the Dreamweaver Stencils' February challenge of St. Pat's or Green, are you a little tired of green? Then this month provides the opportunity of doing any color you wish...including green. However, you have to keep it clean...and simple! Yep. We are challenging you to create with your Dreamweaver products in a CAS style. This is our way of encouraging you to begin your "Spring Cleaning" a little early, and far more fun than sorting cupboards and washing windows!
I have loved this stencil since the moment I saw it. For today post I used The Tall Poppy (LL3023) and I wanted my card to have a soft quality to it so I decided to use Pan Pastels. These are artist grade and ultra soft. First I ran the Tall Poppy through my big kick to emboss it onto the cardstock, then leaving the stencil in place I added color to my poppy using a small stencil brush and the Pan Pastels. The colors I used were : Bright Yellow Green tint, Bright Yellow Green shade, Orange and Orange shade. I used a light orange card stock and used a green layer underneath the image, I punched on side of the green paper using a Martha Stewart border punch, I added a couple of pearl embellishments and I was done. Clean and Simple just my style.

GO GREEN OR GO BRAGH

This is our last challenge for February and I hope some of you have been playing along. I have to say that as much as I love green and St. Patty's day I will be glad to move on to a new challenge. Next month's challenge is CAS (clean and simple) this is great for me because that's how I like to work. Any way for this last challenge I used LL345 (square knot) and LS58 (shamrock) this celtic knot was one of the first stencils I ever bought. I started out by picking a mossy colored card stock and also a piece of white smooth card stock. There are so many green ink colors out there that this gives you a starting point. I used the shamrock and two colors of green ink to do the background layer. the colors I used were Stampin Up's Mellow Moss and Tim Holtz Distress ink - Iced Spruce. I used a 1/2 inch stenciling brush to apply the color with the shamrock stencil notice I did this in a random way overlapping some of the shamrocks or only using half or trailing some off the edge. When I was done was this I used the brush and the Mellow Moss around the edge of the white card. I also did this around the edge of the mossy colored card stock although it is much more subtle. on a 3x3 piece piece of moss card stock I pasted the square knot with metallic gold paste and set it aside to dry. Around the shamrocks I used a Spica Gold Glitter Pen from Copic and I edged each card with G99 olive green. I added a ribbon which I tied in a square know then popped the square knot off with pop dots. There you go clean and simple. Now go to the Dream It UP! blog and add your creation by using Mr. Linky if you don't have a URL you and e-mail your creation to Lynell and she will get it onto the blog. It had been real hard to stay at my desk this week because the San Francisco bay area has been enjoying extremely beautiful spring like weather. Dreamweaver Challenge for February: Going Green or St. Patty's Day

For today's post I wanted to keep it simple, because I just got my art room back and I've been busy setting up. I decided to use the Retro Sitting Kitty (LL3020) and the Big Dot Background (LX 7011). I dry embossed the kitty on white card stock by running it through my big shot and I did the Big dots in the same manner on green card stock. I then added color to the kitty by placing the stencil over the embossed image and using a small stenciling brush I brushed in Adirondack's Willow, once done with that I added Citrus in to areas where I wanted shading. Then sliding a cross stitch screen (SC) underneath I added Adirondack Lettuce just on the tummy, the top of the head and the back leg and base of the tail. The big dot background was done the same way with the same colors only using a 1/2 in stencil brush. I added some twine and a button for my embellishments and to green rhinestones for the eyes.
