Black, White and a Pop of Color

Well it is thursday again and this Month's challenge is Black, White and a pop of color or Graduation.  I'm also excited because Lynell said we could start doing sneak previews of the new stencils that are about to be released. I have just the one to introduce with this colorway challenge.  This new stencil is called Stylized Dahlia (LG743) and I love because it reminds me of Rosemaling which is a form of decorative painting. I chose to do this card using black and white, I started with a black card, to which I layered black and white gingham paper. I then took my stencil and taped it down on all four sides on a piece of white card stock. I used Dreamweaver Glossy Black to paste the stencil. I removed the stencil, by removing the tape starting with the last piece  that I put down and removed all but the last piece which i used as a hinge. I set the pasted image away to dry. Glossy paste can take a long time to dry depending on the humidity and temperature. After the image was dry I layered the white card stock  on to black card stock. I tied a black and white dot ribbon around this layer (BoBunny double dot) and mounted it to the gingham layer then I add 3 turquoise metallic embellishments for a POP of color. Take time this week to create and have some fun, I know that i will be as I head up to spend some time with my friends Joy and Linda in Sacramento.

Be Unique !

 It's the very merry month of May now, and the Dreamweaver Stencils' Dream Team are playing with a new challenge, and we're hoping that YOU will play along! All of this month, we'll be creating for graduations and/or using black and white with a pop of color. May and June are typically the time for grads in the US, but to keep things even more interesting, you can choose to play with our colorway challenge instead.



This month's challenge is Black and White with a pop of color or Graduation. Well as you can see I choose black and white with a pop of yellow. First I taped down my stencil  (LL432) birds on a wire on all four sides with removable tape, then I taped off the bird with his head down. I then used Dreamweaver's  Black Matte Paste  to paste the image and then removed the stencil and cleaned it with warm water. When the paste was dry I repositioned the stencil and taped off all the birds except the one that was not pasted before. I used Dreamweaver's Yellow Matte paste to paste this bird then removed the stencil and cleaned the stencil.  While I was waiting for everything to dry, I cut the yellow card and then layered it with black and white gingham paper. I used my computer to make the sentiment. I use this card quite a bit because I work with a group of teenage girls who are always trying to fit in and I just want them to know it 's ok to be different and follow their dream. When the birds were all dry, I layered them to black card stock and then I added a yellow and black ribbon before layering the birds onto the card. April Showers.....

Wow. spring has come to the Bay Area and these beautiful golden poppies are every where. Using the Poppy stencil (LL521).  I created this card by using the Faux Cross Stitch technique. I love this technique because it is fun and easy to do. I placed the stencil on the paper and then I rouged in color using Adirondack's Peach Bellini for the flowers and Juniper for the stems and leaves.  I then took off all the tape except the last piece and slid my cross stitch screen (SC) underneath the stencil. I then add color starting with the first two colors I used Peach Bellini and Juniper and add darker color using Sunset Orange and Bottle also Adirondack inks. I edged the paper with a copic marker and then mounted the image on Tangerine Bliss. I love the Mango and White dot  paper from Echo Park but it was a little busy to do for the whole background so I cut a triangle and mounted it to a notecard from Hero Arts. I added orange raindots to the corner and using double sided mounting tape pop the image from the background. There it is a CAS card which I really needed this week because I just realized at 6:00 am that it was Thursday. I hope everyone has a great and creative week. Ladies I'm sorry that I'm not posting today, but I experiencing a toothache something I have not had in a long time.  Pain unfortunately does not translate into creativity. So I'm just posting a card that I posted when I first started this blog. The Hydranga was pasted with Black Matte Paste and when dry I used glue and Mica powders to add color. Adirondack Inks : shell pink, watermelon, cranberry, willow, citrus and lettuce.

I used dark brown card stock for the card and then used kraft card stock to stamp the Cottage Roses randomly on to the background with Versamark ink. I then used the aged ivory embossing enamel, to heat this embossing enamel use your heat gun underneath the card rather then heat down onto the powder so that it doesn't blow off.  When that was done I distressed the edges using Ranger Frayed Burlap Distress ink. I layered this background onto the dark brown card stock and set it aside. Next I took a lt. pink card stock and pasted a portion of the blossom and leaves stencil onto the paper with regular embossing paste. I let this dry then repositioned the stencil over the pasted image and added color using a small 1/4 inch stencil brush and the picasso.  The picasso is used to keep color from going where it doesn't belong. I layered this onto dark brown card stock and after adding a sheer brown ribbon from creative expressions I layered this to the kraft background piece. This hop with Stampendous has been so much fun and has  jump started my creative juices. I can't wait to use some  of the techniques I've seen in my classes. Stampendous and Dreamweaver ..A Match Made in Heaven

I also used copic markers to color the image. I used a light pink card to start, I added a layer of gray card stock on which I had pasted the Damask Background Stencil in Black Matte paste. I then stamped the Cottage Rose on Neenah Solar White card stock with Tuxedo Black Momento ink. I used Copic markers to do the coloring on the image and then using Glossy Accents I added the Frantage rose colored Fragments onto the card. I layered this onto a black piece of card stock tied a ivory tulle bow around this layer and used pop dots to mount it onto the damask background. This was so much fun, I'm really addicted to the Stampendous Jumbo Cling stamps and I playing more with the frantage elements.

April Showers Dreamweaver Challenge Week 1

Hi Everyone ...sorry this post is late, but I've been away for 4 days and just realized today is Thursday. For today's challenge I used the Blossom and leaves stencil (LG 625) and regular paste. I taped the stencil down on all four sides and used the paste spreader to paste the image. I let this dry and the added color using the 1/4 in gold handled stencil brush and the Splendor Circus Pad. I then found some paper I liked and started to layer. I wrapped some green twine around the image layer and I also added some Art Institute Vintage Glass glitter to some of the petals to give it a little bling. This was a pretty fast and easy card.
