Christmas in August / Week 5

Wow, I can hardly believe that August is almost over and we are doing our last Christmas in August blog. For today's creation I'm using a stencil that I really love, The Swooshy X-mas Tree ( LM 279) and instead of the usual red and green I'm using the contemporary colors of Lime, Purple and Glacier. The card I'm using is one that Doodlebug Designs came out with last year called create- a -card. I love the scalloped edge and the polka dots. The decorative paper is from last year's Bo Bunny designs and I pasted the image on Bazzill's Grape Delight.
First I taped the stencil to the paper on all fours sides using removable tape, then I mixed embossing paste (DEP) with Kiwi (10) Metallic F/X. Using the Paste Spreader (LM2010) I then pasted the image, removed the tape leaving the first piece as a hinge then remove the stencil and set the image aside to dry. After the stenciled image is dry, reposition the stencil back over the image and using the Jumbo Dauber (KD02) dab glue from the Palette Stamp and Stick Glue pad (GSP) onto the image. Now you will brush on the Metallic F/X in goldfinch(05), Moonstone (04) and Kiwi (10). I then layered the card together and added Liquid Pearls - Bisque for an embellishment on the right side of the card.
You can join in the fun and link your creation to our Dream It Up blog by using Mr. Linky or go to the Dreamweaver Website and e-mail Lynell a picture of your card.

Until next Thursday
HAPPY STENCILING!

Blog Hop Saturday, Dreamweaver/Woodware

All of this week, the Dream Team and the Woodware UK teams are celebrating the release of the new holiday designs from Dreamweaver Stencils. Of course, no celebration is complete without prizes...and there are some fabulous ones for those commenting on both sides of the "pond".

Each team will be providing the opportunity to win four prize packages of stencil designs, perfect for the holidays. Just leave your comments each day on each players' post as well as the Dream It Up! and Woodware UKblogs, and the Dreamweaver and Woodware Facebook pages. Two random commentors  will be chosen from the batch of weekday posts, one each from the DW and WW Facebook pages, and from the big hop on Saturday...from each side of the pond!* That's a total of eight prize packages up for grabs! Here's what you could win:

For today's post I selected the Heart Ornament stencil (LJ 921), this is a very versatile stencil as many of you who have been checking the blogs can attest. I used Memory Mists for the background, I started by spraying the stencil in a box using Green Tea (19) and Iridescent Gold (MM25) Memory Mists then taking my paper and placing it on top of the stencil and brayering. I then set the paper aside to dry. When the background was dry I placed the stencil on top and taped it on all 4 sides and then pasted the image with Dreamweaver Gold Metallic Paste (DGP). I let the paste dry and then mounted the image on black paper and then mounted that on a green card. This card was fun I love the way the Memory Mist background turned out. the fun thing about the memory mists is that no card is ever the same.

Don't forget to leave me some holiday cheer as you move on to the other players for today:

Remember to follow along with the challenges on the Dream It Up! andWoodware UK blogs for more prize opportunities, and more crafty inspiration, as well as "liking" DW and WW on Facebook.

My creation for today was done with the Mittens Stencil (LJ 923), I used the Molten Magic technique. I used sapphire metallic F/X to color my pearlescent paste. I pasted the mittens and then removed the stencil and sprinkled in some moonstone Metallic F/X and then heated the paste. I used a metallic head for the center of the bow. This is a very CAS card and would be great if you have to do lots of Christmas cards.

Christmas in August

This week I had a great class in Berkeley at Scrapbook Territory. I actually used the stencil for this weeks card with a different look but one of my students decided she would like to use the stencil with the Molten Magic technique. Thanks Bryll I loved it so much I did one just like it  at home for my post this week.

I started with a 4 1/2 x 6 1/4 card, I used a beautiful dark green card stock. On pale green card stock I embossed LJ 922 Christmas Borders with pearlescent paste and the sprinkle in Metallic F/X in Kiwi, Goldfinch and Kimono Red. I then heated the paste with my heat gun. I love the elegant look of this card and it was so fun and easy. I added a white tulle bow and a green embellishment pin.

Christmas in August Week 2

Well here it is Thursday already and I almost missed my post. Crazy week at work and trying to et everything cut for my classes on Saturday at Scrapbook Territory. Here's this week card:

I fell in love with Star Dream X-mas (LG 746) and just new right away that I wanted to do gold leafing with this stencil. The first thing I did was to tape my stencil to dark green card stock. I taped all four sides and then I pasted the image with Gold Metallic Paste (DGP). I then removed the stencil and set it in a container with water so I could clean it later.
Once the paste was dry ( you can tell easily with the metallics because they start out dull and then turn shiny) I repositioned the stencil back over the image. I then used a jumbo dauber and Palette Stamp and Stick glue on the image. Remove the stencil, then heat the glue with you heat gun ( Sing the Row, Row, Row your boat song twice and that should be enough heat. You should be able to lift the paper by putting two finger down on the image and the picking it up)
Now the fun part, lay your  Variegated Black  Leafing (VBL) on top of your image and using a large stencil brush pounce gently on the image, you will see the image appear under the leafing. Move your stencil brush gently in a circular motion to remove excess leafing. Don't throw away the excess, I store mine in glad sandwich holders for use on other projects.
I added some metallic embellishments from Hero Arts to the tree and then mounted the green card stock on gold metallic paper. I then layered that onto a gold card that had been layered with red card stock. I used brown twine and a green button for additional embellishing.

Christmas in August.

With Christmas just around the corner it's time to think about starting those cards. The Dream team will making cards for the holidays all through this month.  I decided to use an older stencil that I just received for this card, I really like this stencil (LL 499) Christmas Stocking. I used the double glitter technique and Dreamweaver Double-sided Mounting Paper for this card. The glitter I used was Glitter Ritz microfine glitter in the colors: Fire Red, Moss Green and Dark Gold. Don't forget to use the yummy Hawaiian Coconut soap that Dreamweaver sells, on the back of your stencil. WHY? Because it makes it easier to remove the stencil from the sticky surface of your paper.
